Rot can go undetected when a borer eats the inner workings of the rhizome and bacteria etc sets in. Sneaky little devils.
You should investigate and go to war against borer. You should adjust
your fertilization. You should adjust your drainage/moisture content of your
soil in that localized area. You should clean off the dead part, let the
remainder dry out, replant it with label!! You should work to PREVENT this
situation
I found a live borer amongst my dahlia blubs (continuing joke on this
List, those dahlia blubs) that I was separating the other day.... I think it
had been laid amongst the blubs somehow and hatched there. I have no idea
what it might have been eating.
What this tells me is that borers are out there chewing on my iris
as we speak and it's too damn[p_ to do anything about it...
To Robineers -- this is not a bulb mite tyrade!! honest!!
Carolyn Schaffner Plant sale next weekend all donations gratefully
