One of the purposes for waiting till summer is to spare the bloom. But
if there is no bloom, she can do it now. She will get bloom on the increases
no matter when she does it. so...
Have her dig and separate the rhizomes carefully, saving the "good" onesthat is, those that have increases started along the sides. Those big fans
would have had bloomstalks, so are now the "mothers" of the increases.
Choose rhizomes with increases, replant them in the familiar Y shape and
stand back. The growth she will see this year will produce bloomstalks next
year. Hopefully.
