:The North American Rock Garden Society lists over 6000 varied species and
:cultivars of plants of all kinds including many Iris, generally close to a
:hundred listings. I have more beardeds from this exchange than from SIGNA,
:possibly because as Herman stated in a message awhile back, Iris are not
:universally popular among RG folks, yet there is a large pool of donors.
Louise, could you post NARGS membership information to the list? I
know I've seen it before, but can't remember where.
:
:Does anyone out there know if the British Iris Society and the Aril Society
:International have seed exchanges?
BIS has a good seed exchange. ASI has a seed *bank* to which members may
contribute and from which they may ask for seeds to grow, but there is
no yearly list from which members are invited to order seeds.
:
:I am also curious to know which of the other AIS Groups have seed exchanges
:besides SIGNA and SPCNI. Perhaps eventually we could get this type of info
:on a web page.
My "Iris Societies" file, which is on the web, lists the publicized membership
benefits of each iris society, including seed exchanges. However, I didn't
list this detailed information for the AIS sections, only for the independent
societies. Perhaps that's an area worth expanding on.
BTW, I understand the rationale for a "donor's preference" in the SIGNA
seed exchange, but I disagree with it. I think if something is considered
a "membership benefit", then all members in good standing should be treated
equally. The ASI plant sale, for example, does not give preference to
donors; any member who writes a check is treated the same as any other.
Our local club's rhizome sale was also done this way: members got first
pick before the general public, but the members were not lined up according
to who had dug the most irises for the sale.
