Orris root is dried rhizome of "Iris florentina", although I believe
some other irises have been used from time to time. Apparently, it's
still a going business in Italy. It's making a bit of a comeback among
herb fanciers around the world. It makes a nice addition to an herb
garden (irises have prettier flowers than dill!), and then you get to
harvest the plants for making sachets. No, I haven't tried it!
