Hello Everyone:
Iris bloom report from Little Rock, Ark., USDA Zone 7b:
My first bearded iris bloomed about 2 weeks ago...MDB "Chubby Cherub"
followed two days later by another MDB "Zipper." Usually my bulbous iris
I. danfordii blooms in mid Feb.....but this year I got only a few leaves
and no bloom...as is typical of that shy species.
The I. reticulata bloomed in Feb. -- perfectly on schedule, despite the
cold. They were beautifully presented...probalby 50 blooms on a small
hillside.
My Medians are now beginning to flower. "John" is blooming nicely.
The first Siberian to bloom (quite ahead of schedule) was "Lavender
Ruffles." The first Tall Bearded was "Master Sleuth." (I think it's a
TB...but I don't have the registry handy right now.)
My Louisianas are beginnning to form stalks...but it will be another week
or perhaps two before I get any open blooms. Our local show is two weeks
from today...so those Louisianas better get a move on it!
The weather hereabouts is finally spring like. We had a cold, long-lasting
winter. We got down to 10 degrees at my home...and many folks reached zero
F. I have a nice little microclimate that keeps my garden a bit warmer
than most...it seems.
I enjoy the messages very much...even after returning from a trip and
finding hundreds awaiting me!!!
