Thanks, Anner, for your input on this issue. I have sat in on a few
e-mail lists now, and do agree this is a healthy, functional list, in
part because of the parameters and tolerance built into it by its
creator, but also in pivotal part due to the willingness of most listers
to have that same tolerance, and more or less follow the guidelines,
which seem to be quite reasonable and easy to follow. I do enjoy the
give & take of this list, the little odd subjects that pop up from time
to time, and would hate to see that go because it was being enjoyed to
the point of abuse. This is an impressively large and varied group, with
a lot of widespread interests under the loose heading of "Iris", so that
the only way such a list CAN survive is through the generous use of
patience, tolerance, and taking pains to follow the quite reasonable
rules of posting.

This is a difficult subject to address, and am glad you chose to do so
generically. I have felt the pangs of an irrelevant or misguided posting
by myself from time to time, and also the pangs of knowing that some
would probably take umbrage by such list "faux paux". The one thing that
kept me on the list after posting a few I thought were "goofy" was the
tolerance, or at least politeness, of others. I would like to be the
same way with others on this list.
