Hi Jan
>I have made a few enquiries re Wabash with A.J.
I also have asked a member of the Vic Region who used to grow Wabash in the
60's or early 70's about it. My catalogues go back to 1974 but later I
found it in a catalogue from Dr Loveridge when we visited his garden in
Leura during a convention There is another member of the Soc in Melbourne
who may well still have it he thinks. He will be on the same trail as Ann
I daresay.
I am in reasonably constant contact with Melb members re the coming Iris
Convention so it is easy for me to make inquiries.
I have also visited, maybe 15 years ago, a member who grows pure arils
etc.in Melb( not Sam) that may be interest to Paul T.in Canberra. Before I
give out the info about him I need to get an O.K. There is also the
possibility of another in Canberra. I need to get facts straight first.
Now I'm bit confused about this hotmail stuff. Did you ever receive a
message from me re a couple of old var. I have here..somewhere..called
Aeros and Beacon. Maybe I do something amiss now and then. I need to borrow
a set L plates for the computer.
I read your messages on the list with interest especially the seedraising
capers. I threw myself headfirst into hybridizing about 17 years ago
resulting in thousands of seeds. Along came child No 5 and really threw a
spanner in the works. Tentative attempts since saw me stand back and watch
Bill tear through all the rows of nondescript seedlings with a tractor and
rotary hoe. You are right about the mixed feelings you have watching the
destruction of all these creations that must be culled. I decided that
maybe it wasn't time for me to find that elusive "good one" yet. It will be
something I'll take up seriously... later on.... when I have the
time...like golf.
