The plant bloomed today.  Yes it matches the photo and description and has
all the form of an onco.
Large globular lavender (lightly dappled in an irregular pattern), falls
heavily netted with very fine, intricate veining, a black signal - curving
sharple back toward the stem.  It was labeled as I. atropurpurea.  It
definitely has another bud in the terminal socket, so I'm guessing it is a
hybrid of some sort.  It does not appear to have the regelia form gleaned
from looking at photos.  In any case, after 3 years of waiting, it has
bloomed and is something different to look at from irises I'm used to
viewing.
