I am losing messages and notes faster than they come in - somebody
either on or off list (maybe Dennis Kramb?) asked how my median/dwarf
beardeds were doing after the freeze. I generally don't grow them -
most of the ones I've tried haven't done well (croaked) and our summer
soil temps (I learned from the list) are too high for some/a lot of them
(they exhale too much at night and use up all their calories). I
haven't tried many and most were gifts from more moderate gardens in
Region 7 (here Linda, see if you can kill this one).
Some of the MTBs look a lot better this year than they did last - they
were evidently not as far along when the freeze hit this time.
REMINISCENCE has the most damage (about 50%). The others had little or
no damage, I think.
No sign of buds on BLITZ or LITTLE SHOWOFF (the only SDBs still
truckin') but no foliar damage. Ditto the one IB I have (HONEY GLAZED)
which usually manages to bloom profusely every year, though usually on
severely to somewhat stunted stalks. I think all the pieces of
RASPBERRY JAM (SDB) died. LITTLE SHOWOFF may not be making buds, but it
is certainly growing like kudzu.
