AIS: Fall Regional rhizome auction

At our last club meeting I was 'volunteered' to solicit rhizomes for our
Region 7 AIS Fall meeting. This is our first attempt at hosting a
regional meeting and I am not sure what the traditions are for getting
newish introductions donated for the auction. Do hybridizers like to
give away their plants for this purpose? I'm supposed to call some
people and I feel a bit uncomfortable saying "Hello, would you please
give me your firstborn child for the benefit of the Region 7 treasury?"

Should I ask hybridizers outside of Region 7? Should we offer to pay a
token something and make it up in the auction? Our club members will
have some to donate, but not enough to provide enough for a good
auction. Any comments on how this is done in other regions or
traditions in our own region would be greatly appreciated.
