I would be very grateful to know about the Fine Gardening
article if anyone can
locate it. The idea of not having to solder is very appealing.

Anner and others, Fine Gardening had an article about a year ago for
making a copper rose arbor. Yes the design
involved soldering - not adhesive. As someone mentioned soldering is not
difficult, especially since the joints on an
arbor do not need to be water tight like your home plumbing. Some key
items I recall:
Straight regular copper pipe and fittings are used for the 4
posts and crossbars which form the base. Flexible
"refrigerator tubing" is used to form the arching top. The refrigerator
tubing is a smaller diameter and softer copper alloy so
it can be bent easily without any special tools. A tubing cutter is
helpful but not essential - a hacksaw can be used but
the sharp edges will need to be filed off.
Liquid Anything is not going to be strong enough to hold the
joints together under the strain of a growing rose
etc., it might be okay for a smaller vine like sweet peas etc.
If anyone would like a copy of the Article, I can dredge it up
(I don't know the issue now) and send them a copy.
