The first croci bloomed today - April 8th - a full 30 days ahead of
last year when I recorded in my *bloom book* that one yellow crocus
bloomed on May 8, 1997....today not one yellow to be seen but purples,
blue stripes and whites strutting their stuff. Almost all daffs have
broken ground and a few muscari are just beginning to show...also,
have some little snowdrops but most are not emerging....bought them
from the ubiquitous White Flower Farm, BTW. The other more reliable
bulbs came from somewhere else. :)
Of course, no iris blooming here in Zone 3 but the lovely I. pallida
variegata Aurea is now 5 1/2" tall....I think it might be one of the
first to bloom in the mixed-border where I have peonies, Siberians
and
a motley crew of perennials.
Cheers,
Ellen (feels like Spring except when the temps go down in the 20s F
each
