Yes I understand this. I have a garden full of bees and have never seen
a bee pod on an iris.

I also appreciate that you have far more experience than me. My comment
was a response to the remark that you have to get to the flower before
the bee. If a bee does in fact pollenate it, then how can you say
reliably which pollen fertilised the flower.
If you're not worried about bee pollenations, then you don't have to
worry about beating the bee.
