I grew this successfuly in northern PA (zone 4b, I believe).  The Zone 7-8
classification is way off.  In contrast the Hermodactylus I planted here
last fall did not even come up this spring.  The bulbs were delayed in
being shipped and were pretty dried up when they got here.  I suspect that
was the problem.
