Sterling,
"Bloomout" is a very unpredictable event. Over the years I tried to
understand why this happens to iris but haven't come up with anything
definite. However, there are varieties that are prone to do this and in
my situation I promptly discard them. Also climate and weather, warm
winters with lots of rain, seems to promote this. Some irisarians have
told me in the past to pollinate the flower on the plant blooming out in
the hope the seed pod will keep the plant growing and eventually form
increases. I tried this once and it was unsuccessful. Sometimes
varieties will put out increases later in the summer so don't give up on
it yet. If after digging it, you do not see any increase then you can
safely say "adios".
