Hello everyone!
I am sorry to be so late in writing about my last Fort Worth meeting...I think it
was the best meeting yet. For those of you who are wondering why I keep posting
the happenings of the meetings, it's because so much of what goes on is a whole new
world and I just can't express how wonderful it is to me. Enough sap, here's what
happened: The firs thing I noticed when I walked into the room was this vibrant
royal purple bloom in a jar...it had lightly oranged halfs and darker purple around
the purple beard. Turned out to be a seedling of Marge and Bill Powell's...they
let me take it home with me! (My parents were very impressed) During the business
part of the meeting, Joe Spears, our president recommended me for the Nominating
Committee (sp?) (he got to choose 3 members, and then 2 were nominated from the floor...I
nominated Tom Burseen) and the committee was approved! Then, we had our program...given
by our list's very own Ruth Simmons! Her program on how to prepare and groom and
transport irises was *very* educational, and entertaining, to boot! I think when
you're in a room full of knowledgable people like that, you learn by osmosis...
Anyway, I also got 2 green bottles for showing with, and several more when I stopped
by Sylvan Sigler's house on the way back. (We carpool...that way my parents don't
have a nervous breakdown every time I go to a meeting in downtown Fort Worth!) Let's
see... I did learn alot about how to select irises from the garden and something
that Ruth said in her program proved true: she said that an iris only needed one
bloom open to win a blue ribbon, and sure enough, Fairy Goblin and Burgundy Bubbles
both won blue ribbons! If I hadn't known that, I wouldn't have taken them! I'm
sorry if this report has sounded so "me" oriented, but that's how it happened to
me!
And there's what happened.
