Re:Using pesticides on unlisted plants

If a use of a pesticide does not appear on the label, the homeowner is "on
their own" concerning the efficacy of the treatment, in other words, the
manufacturer or patent holder will not support you.

There is nothing "illegal" about using a pesticide for your own use "off
label," only if it is a restricted use pesticide (which aren't marketed to
homeowners). The EPA, which supervisers the registration of pesticides,
does not care about labeling pertaining to efficacy (if the mfr. says it
works, that's their responsibility). The EPA is concerned with product
safety, particularly on products which could get into the food
supply--whereas ornamentals don't create that problem.

Commercial applicators, such as lawn services, follow pesticide labeling
closely (or at least the smarter ones do).
