When you have a pesticide like orthene which does not list iris (or whatever
you want to use it on) in the accompanying literature, it is a good idea to
telephone the manufacturer. Most major chemical companies have customer
service departments with 800 numbers, which you can get free from
1-800-555-1212. I have done this on occasion and been told that the
chemical in question (sorry, I don't remember which) had been approved for
irises but the label had not yet been reprinted to reflect this fact.
