I've always assumed folks who witness this have let bee pods burst and
scatter seeds willynilly, and the white irises they see are rampant
seedlings running amok. Sure is a persistent rumor, though. Maybe some very
popular combo pack of colored irises sold over the past forty years was
particualrly prone to throw white seedlings when interbred.
