In a message dated 98-04-14 20:30:16 EDT, you write:

I'm following this thread with interest, since we will soon be spending 12
hours a day at the Niagara International Flower and Garden show and I ALWAYS
get someone who wants to know how they can keep their irises from 'reverting'.
Folks misunderstand the difference between a hybrid iris and a hybrid rose....
and understand that an iris is somehow grafted onto a rootstock and that there
is the ever-present danger of reverting to purple (I always get purple...
never the white story). But the scenerio is the same, as they tell it. A
glorious mixture of colors until one year when suddenly they all turn purple.
And if you politely try to figure out what's really happened here, they will
insist that it's just and only that - a 'reversion'. And become exasperated
at my dimness.
I generally suggest the 'vigorous' iris theory.... bee pod story is
unlikely, IMHO.
