I have now been over to the office of Chairman of the Species Survival
Commission for the IUCN, which happens to be right here. the red book
list 53 species of iris which are either endangered or threatened and
the reference for those species. It will be appearing on the internet
quite soon. The website is partially available at:-
http://www.wcmc.org.uk/species/plants/index.html
It is interesting to note that neither I. pariensis nor I. tenuis [see
recent e-mails from Kathy and Jeff] are listed. I. lacustris is, of
course.
the chairman pointed out that there are groups being formed around the
world to protect different plant genera and forms (eg bulbs) and that
there is not one on irises. Again, why not the World Iris Association -
and ideal forum.
Ian, in Ottawa who is falling behind on various matters and apologizes
for not replying to items demanding a response. I'll get there!
