Well I don't like the sharp stick solution, too much potential danger to the
kittens. The sharp stones or gravel might work.
In the spring when I want to protect my beds, I unroll 24" chicken wire around
the bed and use 1/4" dowels woven in and out of the wire to hold it up. Won't
keep out a full grown cat who really wants in, but it might keep out the
kittens until they get old enough to be interested in something else. My Zoe
(you can see her on my webpage at
http://members.home.net/jijones/People/Zoe.htm) spends the summer playing
"Tiger in the Savannah" any time I am in the garden.
I have heard that Chicken Manure is a deterrent for cats but have never tried
it. There are commercial "Pet Repellent" products that may work as well.
