Our hearts go out to Linda Mann and others in Tennessee and Arkansas. The
same night we were hit. Thankfully, we personally sustained only minor
damage. Neighbors less than a mile away lost everything. We had large
limbs down and lost a few shingles and a large trellis. We had a big mess
to clean up with all the sheet metal and other debris that was deposited on
the roof, the garden and in the trees but that was a small thing.
Apparently, it lifted over our house and barns and touched down again in
our forest where several trees were twisted off and up-rooted. Walnut Hill
and Eastern Centralia along Rt. 161 which is a more residential area was
hit pretty bad. There is an effort underway to have this declared a
Disaster Area. We had quite a bit of rain and hail along with the wind but
it was only about marble sized...haven't had a chance to assess the damage
from this yet except for the obvious...destruction of the tulips and
daffodils that were so gloriously blooming on Easter. I'm going to check
the irises today. I haven't had the courage to see if the bloom stalks are
still standing. There weren't many in evidence as of Sunday although I
could feel them just ready to emerge....back to the garden, with
trepidation. Ann Henson, in South Central Illinois where we finally got
noticed by El Nino.
