The original message about this phenomenon didn't give the location
of the garden where it reputedly is occuring. However, I am finding
it hard to believe that, with the number of knowledgeable irisarians
all over the country, someone isn't relatively close to the location
and interested enough to check it out as an individual or club project.
A call to the co-op extension agent responsible for the area
in which the garden is located might be a reasonable first step, if
anyone is truly interested in a definitive answer. And a soil test
might quickly prove or disprove the above theory about soil
conditions being the cause. I would also think someone would be trying
to obtain some samples of the plants so they could be grown on in
different conditions to see if the color comes back.
I hope I'm not being to harsh when I say this whole thread about
reversion to white sounds like proof of the comment I saw in a recent
message that AIS is suffering from an "aging membership". There
sure seems to be a lot of talk and no action.
I'm off the soapbox, and apologise in advance if I offend anyone
with the above.
