True. That's why I think that
"reversion" is rarely observed by
true irisarians. It's most often
reported by someone who =
finally replaced a planting of =
"flags" with modern iris.
Sometimes, it does affect a bed
that has a limited range. My first
lesson concerning "reversion"
came many years ago, in the form
of a 150-ft row that bloomed all
purple although it had supposedly
been started with five different varieties.
It had been naturatlized for at least
15 years, I suspect many more.
This was presented as a reason I
shouldn't waste money buying new
iris. Of course I didn't buy into it, but
I DID observe that planting for several
more years and the next year only the =
cream-colored ones bloomed! Most
years, two or three different ones
bloomed -- but never all five. =
