Show: WIS Spring Show

Well today, the Westbay Iris Society (my club) had their spring show. It =
is a
fun group of people and we have as much fun educating the public as in ha=
ving
the show. =

Joanne and I went early to help set up and get things rolling, thinking t=
hat
we would get home sometime after the judging. We had both signed up to be=

clerks so we could learn a little more about what it takes to have a good=
 show stalk.

We are a small club, and there were only about 120 entries in the show, b=
ut we
did have entries in every category except Aril, Arilbred, and Aril-median=

Joanne and I entered a bunch of Tall Bearded stalks and two PCN stalks.

We were clerking for the judges doing the Tall Bearded group. It was busy=
 and
the judges kept us on our toes keeping up with all the record keeping, So=
, it
was a real rush at the end to realize that we had accumulated 4 blue ribb=
ons
on the TB table.

While the judges were puzzling over the selection of best of section for =
the
TBs, I glanced over towards the PCN table. I was almost dumbfounded to se=
e
*both* my PCNs with blue ribbons on them and the judges debating which of=
 the
12 or so PNCs was going to be the best of that section.

Well, all our TBs were eliminated from the best of section selection, and=
 so
somewhat dejectedly we turned from out duties as clerks only to discover =
that
one of my PCNs had been selected best of section in its class. It was the=

second time in the same number of days that my jaw dropped ant hit someth=
ing
hard (the edge of the table). =

So, now, shuffling from foot to foot, and trying to be quiet, we waited a=
round
while all the best of section winners were lined up on the front table so=
 the
judges could debate their merits (or lack thereof) and pick Best Specimen=
 of
the Show (Queen of the Show).

The debate raged on, and gradually individual irises were retired to thei=
r
respective sections til only three were left - an IB, a TB and a - =

So now it was time for the judges to make their selection. The head clerk=

asked how many judges wanted the IB as the winner, and recorded the vote.=

Then she asked how many judges wanted to select the TB as the winner, and=
