	Celia, we toured several gardens yesterday and saw the extent of
the freeze damage.  I, also, saw VF and a lot of other things blooming on
extremely short stalks.  Early blooming varieties like LADY FRIEND and
BEFORE THE STORM had their buds 'blasted' and have turned into parchment.

	It seems as if the historic cultivars were not affected by the
freeze.  Three in particular in my own garden are perfect.

	LALITHA MALLETTE, one of the few introductions of Phil Edinger,
	is a magnificient blue on white plicata that was introduced in
	1964.  It is standing tall and strutting her stuff.

	ZANTHA, Fay '47, an enormous yellow with some lace.

	MOONLIT SEA, Sasses, 1943, always draws a crowd.  Colorwise, it is
	still the standard for judging luminatas.
