	By definition buds appear in the old leaf nodes (regardless of wheyther
they have grown over or whether they are still obvious.  What you said
about dormancy and chemical inhibition was right on target to my knowledge.
 Given how close together iris leaves grow on the rhizome I'd imagine that
there are many many dormant buds that could be stimulated this way.  Yes
there would be a finite number of these buds and they would depend upon the
length of the rhizome, however there'd certainly be lots of them.
Certainly makes for an interesting way to increase your irises.
