Hello, I should have made myself more clear, we slice to spread the plants
out more, since we usually get 3-7 new plants we can divide and get the
growth in another area. When I saw Keith slice it was to give each of us a
piece of a wonderful plant. It healed quickly and sent up growth. He dug
it up and carefully checked to see that each cut made would give off many
new plants. NOBODY slices or digs in our garden during bloom time with the
exception of digging and potting a "Panama Hattie" for a very sick lady
this year. We do cut off spent bloom stocks to force the growth into rest
of iris, besides it looks better and gives us a chance to check each iris
as we work, and we get rid of all those un-invited pods that might develope
and temp us to keep them. hope this is helpful, lorraine in overcast
motown where the bloom is coming on fast!!
