This an old "spud" grower speeking at the moment. I have split iris rhyzomes
down the middle at regular dividing time when they are extremely large. After
the split and a drench in fungicide the plant is dried as usual so as to form
a slight "scar" such as is done when cutting a potato prior to planting. Yes
the bad guys, pathogens, most likely would attack with a vengance if this
drying step after the fungicide was not taken. I have not purposefully cut an
iris up like a potato how ever. Mayby some of that KING OF MAY which grows
like a weed would be a fair experimental plant. If plants can be tissue
cultured to hasten a variety such is frequently done in the nursury world, why
could a simple chunk of iris rhyzome which contains at least a side bump not
be successfully propagated. The potato lover inside me does not wish to eat
iris by the way!
