According to Sunset Magazine, they would not make it there. Rosamond
is listed as being in Sunset Zone 11, which they say gets too many winter
freezes and too many 100 F+ summer days for this species. Also, they would
really take the water, but no more than your Dahlias and Cannas.
If you think you would like to try a start, let me know. Also, if
there are any other Sunset Zone 11 gardeners who have had success with
Dietes, let me know. Sunset Zone 11 also includes the Mojave Desert and
the area around Las Vegas. Do African Irises survive in Las Vegas? With
plenty of water and if you cover them on nights that fall below 20 F, they
should do fine.
