Hello. Good Morning all. Sun is shining here, no clouds and a BEAUTIFUL
day!
There are expressed EXTREME concerns about the usage of Cygon for
control of iris borer. I shall not get into a debate any further on this
as I do not have the time or inclination. It is definitely correct that
people should be well aware of what they are using. The purpose for
posting the info link regarding cygon in a recent e-mail is not to
confuse the issue but to simply provide some scientific material to the
Iris list arena as much of the stuff on the Iris List is anecdotal (not
to mean that it is inaccurate).
Obviously you note that I am pro-spraying of cygon. I advocate proper
usage of the pesticide vrs indiscriminate and improper, ineffective
application. Everyone has a choice in this: whether to use or not to use
cygon or any pesticide for that matter. I choose to use it (cygon) but
I DO understand if people choose not to, for whatever reasons. It is
good for people new to the culture of irises to make informed decisions.
I am not trying to convince anyone one way or another just inform of a
cultural option. In certain areas of North America the iris borer is a
very severe problem for irises and requires intervention of the
gardeners choosing.
YOU the gardener make the choice based on needs, wants and personal
convictions.
Happy irising!! Chris.
