Kathyguest went for a speedwalk through the garden this morning before work
.. and there among the I. bucherica (sp??), was my VERY first bearded iris
bloom!!!
The iris in question is an SDB by Chuck Chapman of Ontario, Canada. Chuck is
working with rock-hardy reblooming SDB's.... which may account for the
bazillion buds on this sweetie and the very early bloom. This iris is LEMON
ICE... a pale lemon self. The "ice" might refer to the frosty temps out
there -
I planted the SDB's from Chuck in the late fall of 1996. They are all
generous clumps already, and I'm certainly going to have some at our Members
Only auction at the picnic this year!
Kathyguest.... who believes this is the earliest bearded iris bloom ever at
the Stately Guest Manor, Buffalo burbs.
