Hello Linda,
.Re: PCN's.
We have found that the majority of PCN's prefer acid soil and we have
the best luck growing them on an east exposure to the sun. We have
several beneath oak trees and beneath evergreens with only an east
exposure to the sun. They seem to florish.
They need acid soil and dry summer conditions. They do not do well
under extreme heat. But should survive and flourish in Half Moon Bay.
Surely you have been to Ghio's garden or must know of it by now. Joe has
done an outstanding job of working with PCN's and TB's as well. In fact,
I don't know of any iris that Joe Ghio has undertaken that hasn't been
top quality. We have known Joe since the mid 1960's and he has always
produced some outstanding iris.
Linda, if you haven't been to his garden. Please go. He can educate you
better about growing PCN's than anyone in that area.
