HYB: Spence Irises

Hi All,
My mother-in-law just met the nephew of Harry and Ethel Spence (sp?) of
Missouri.  He said that they were really involved in growing and hybridizing
irises and that his aunt had been a president (regional?) for many years, but
he didn't have many details.  So now, I'm curious:  does anyone know anything
about the Spences?
