<< Seriously, our arilbred irises don't seem to be all that concerned
with the humidity if they are planted on the south side of the house under
a long roof overhang. The ones that do best are the Les Peterson
arilbreds, and a newer one (for me, that is) from Ben Hager called
ZERZURA. These are all half breds. Quarter talls can fend for themselves
almost anywhere in the garden, but not the quarter medians. I seem to
think they need a little more water and tlc and should be grown in a
protected place. WI winters would make the little ones shiver, I think.
The Kary Garden in Scottsdale, AZ, lists all of the Peterson
irises, as Ardi Kary is a daughter or granddaughter of Les. She usually
has an ad in the classified section of the AIS Bulletin.
BOLD SENTRY by Les Peterson makes an excellent parent.

Hello Walter,
Thank you kindly for your advice on arilbreds. I've been receiving lots of
tips and am taking notes on the different cultivars and hybridizers that have
been recommended to me. My shopping list just gets longer and
longer............I can hardly wait to get some started to see what happens.
I enjoy reading your postings and am always able to glean valuable tips on
many subjects.
I am just days away from my first bloom on a MDB (TINY CHERUB) and a few days
after that may already have a bloom on a TB (IMMORTALITY). Wish all my iris
loved to increase and bloom like good old IMMORTALITY, what a trooper! What a
great time of year this is!
