Hi everyone:
Yes, I have kept up with the incoming mail even though I've not
contributed anything for some time now. Thank you, Anner, for enquiring
about me. I'm well and busy. Still working on my catalog. Expect I'm
about the last one to get one out.
I am really enjoying my garden. There is so much color just now.
Daffadils are finished, but the tulips are putting on a show. Add to
that, basket of gold, pansies, johny-jump-ups, grape hyacinth, dogwood,
redbud, Oregon Grape, Bergenia, Azaleas, Rock Daphne, Lilacs, etc. etc.
And the Iris? The SDBs are at peak; the IBs are just starting. The TBs
are sending up more bloom stalks each day, but not showing color yet, so
it will be possibly 2 weeks to peak bloom. Depends on the weather.
We've had a mild winter with practically no snow, more rain than usual
continuing into Spring. Had some wind; probably less than usual, which
is nice. As long as there is still snow on the ridge above Wenatchee,
any breeze will be cold. But we're having beautiful weather now.
All of the Iris look good, no leaf spot or anything like that. And
I've never had borers, thank goodness. But I am seeing something which
I don't believe is normal. Probably because of our mild winter. Many
of the bloomstalks have leaves up on the stem, some quite close to the
bloom, others part way up on the stem. Otherwise the stalks are normal.
I haven't seen anything shorter than usual, with blooms down in the
plant. Not saying it can't happen. There are still many that are just
beginning to show some thickening.
All for now.
Lorraine, looking forward to a fantastic bloom in the Talls as it is
in the dwarfs. And wishing all of you the same. Sounds as though El
Nino hasn't been too kind.
