I am not sure that soil fertility has anything to do with size as i have some
great soil that produces small rz and I fertilize now with super phosphate
in the fall. This year we have had mild winter and a dry summer for us and
the rhizomes are a little bigger than normal.
Those iris in the shade will bloom alittle later but It does not make them
smaller than my full sun iris. Ofcourse I don't get the sun Texas gets, not
as much as Calfornia either.
