Sick Iris

Hello,

About four months ago I planted five iris bulbs in a large 
container.  They've grown tall very quickly and were looking great up 
until about a week ago.  I began noticing the leaves turning 
yellow/speckled and a large abundance of spider-like insects had 
formed webs on the leaves and base of the stems.  I've had ferns that 
were hit with this same insect, in the end killing the plant. 

I think the plant is pot-bound, but I'm also afraid these bugs may be 
doing additional damage.  Does anyone have any idea as to what I 
should do OR what kind of bugs these are?  I love irises and have 
never grown them before.  I would hate to see them die.  

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
