Not necessary here. Some of mine are rotting and cooking at the same time.
They are bone dry and some of the rhizomes are cooked and dry on half the
clump, rotting on the other half - sometimes exhibited on the same rhizome.
Without water. COMING UP ROSES has bit the dust. I've had it six years
without any prior rot, but it did this year. Was a poor grower in any
circumstance, but never had rot before. I think rot is a result of stress
in any form and doesn't necessarily need water to exhibit itself. As of
now, I've experienced considerably more rot without water in very dry
conditions than I have with water in any form where the soil is moist. We
are currently having upper 90s day temps and low humidity and I'm seeing
more rot than I've ever experienced before. The plants that are now rotting
have had no supplemental water and very little rainfall since the 7 1/2
inches in early July. The soil is very dry. I've been digging this a.m.
and giving a bleach bath to see which ones I can salvage. I'm not at all
hopeful of salvaging very many.
