Re: eye of the beholder (was TB: Success of Assorted TBin Zone 5b)

Just for the record, I'm not a total boar in my tastes. I do like some of the
variegated cultivars, the foliage can be very striking if used in the proper
place (luckily, most of them have rather old fashioned flowers!). I think
some of the patterns in the Regalia, and especially Aril species, and their
Arilbred descendents are spectacular, and believe it or not, and occasional
modern cultivar really does grab my attention. Last year I saw one of Lowell
Baumunk's recent seedlings in flower in his beds, and totally flipped over it,
ruffled petals and all (it bloomed in my yard this spring!). It's sort of
like 'Glitz & Glitter'. So far no SA has really won me over, yet. Some
Flatties are OK, I really like 'Rhythm' and 'Little Freak', but most I think
are rather ugly. I have a section of them anyway (some are really pretty when
they make the occasional normal flower). Can't help admiring the natural
beauty of most wildlings. Just look really close at flowers like those of I.
missouriensis, I. pallida, I variegata, I. reticulata, or any other wild
species, they are spectacular.

And very true, it's just my opinion; no more or less important than anyone
else's, except to me of course.

Forgive me, I tend to go off on rants at times.

Dave
