I have to agree with you about normal flowers on the flatties. While SIX
PACK was as yet unidentified in my garden, showing only a terminal, normal
bloom, I was quite enamoured with it's color and form. Of course I was
ecstatic when the next bloom opened flat, and his identity could be
confirmed...
But, on the other hand, I found RASPBERRY WINE (an extra from last year)to
be rather indistinct and uninspiring until it bloomed one flat bloom
(presumably frost damage). Somehow that color worked better on the flat
bloom than it did on the normal blooms.
I think it must be a bit of a balancing act between getting the right
colors, the right form, and both in just the right place...
