Dave and others:
The numbers published in *Garden Irises* are those reproduced on the HIPS
website to which you rightly refer to as "Randolph and Randolph."
These are counts made under rigorous conditions by L. F. Randolph, J. Mitra,
M. Simonet and others. I note, as have you, that both "President Pilkington"
and "Alice Harding" are listed as 48-chromosome tetraploids. I would be
inclined to regard the counts in this list as "THE" authoritative source for
such information.
