Betty I have used Preen for years. Surflan works better but the smallest
size is a quart and about $65. With Preen it takes water to activate it. I
lightly water after application. I think you heavy rain washed it all to the
lower areas.

According to the instructions you are to work it 2" to 3"into the ground
after application. This is not easy with iris. You might try pulling the
weeds in the high areas and re-applying in those areas. Since there are
weeds growing in the high areas there must not be any Preen.

I have had no problems  that I know of with Preen retarding growth. It might
cause them to start new growth slower, but that is a guess. Once they start
growing I have no problems. I now pot before planting in the garden.
