Squirrels are bigger problems than the smaller varmints. We had a particular pesky bunch that burrowed down to the septic leach lines so regular methods didn't work. We covered over all the holes but one and placed paint buckets of dirt over them. We took a wadded up "burrito" of chicken wire down the main entrance, poured in the cheap bleach, and covered over with dirt and bucket. Squirrels are very stubborn and will dig back into the burrow later but rarely do they bother after the third application. At least till next year...
