iris RE:alfalfa

Even though I am a new iris gardener, I used alfalfa pellets this year after
reading so much about them through you guys. I tried several methods: The
first, as a top dressing. This didn't work. My deer loved them, then it
rained and it became a mushy mess. after cleaning this up, I started soaking
the pellets and making a mush. I now dig a large hole, fill it in with the
mush, put the dirt back in and plant the new rhizome on top. This seems to
help not only the newly planted, but also the established rhizomes. After
seeing my grandmother's irises for >20 years, I feel like my garden might
eventually measure up to hers. The fans, blooms, and reblooms have been
great.
