In response to Michael M's recent post about Peroxide fizzing--It doesn't seem to happen fast enough against bacterial soft rot
Peroxide eats into living tissue, by the way. It would tend to destroy the natural walling-off of infected areas that occurs with irises as they form callus tissue to isolate an infection if they can or have the time to do so.
I would still want to try a test to see if any surface rot remained and then air dry.A sharp, clean knife cut through healthy tiss allowed to air dry would be better to clean up infection, I would think.
There is a h202 in water solution that is used to "sprout" daylily seeds so it should be safe to soak Rz's in for internal bacterial rot. I have no idea what effect it might have on borers or their eggs.
Side note: The Italians did some early experiments injecting Hydrogen Peroxide in lab animals to increase the oxygen levels in the blood. The increased oxygen levels caused cancerous cells to "explode" They now use a transfusion procedure in people to oxygenate the blood and then return it to the Patient. In Medford Or, they have a large hyperbaric chamber that is used to raise blood oxygen levels to stop gangrene. It seems unless the levels are overdone it should not have a negative effect on plants.
I'll be interested to hear how your experiment with H2O2 goes, Michael.Me too
