Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond. I have learned a few things. Like I'm not going to be able to have one of each iris LOL. 70,000!!! Wow! That sure explains why there's such a selection.
I will take the suggestion to get someone to give me an in-person crash course. By Spring I should be able to understand more of what they'd be saying. I'm doing a lot of reading, but I'm getting to that age where I don't retain like I used to. I'll give great consideration to joining the local iris society. Sounds like a good place to start, plus there's an iris grower not too far from here who opens her farm for a few weeks in the spring.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what the iris I ordered look like when they bloom. Photography is one of my hobbies, so I'm well aware of the effects of light on color. The websites will have a picture of a blue iris and in the description, it's listed as purple so I know there will be surprises.
I guess I'll forego planning to become an expert identifier. For example, there are 3 pictures of Aardvark Antickz on the Blue J Iris website and although all look similar, they are different (www.bluejiris.com). Baboon Bottom and King Tush look just as similar to each other as the others look different. I assume that BB and KT are related by the similarity in names, but I haven't investigated that. Too busy setting up my beds LOL.
For now, I'll just plan on enjoying the irises and being surprised.
