I have really enjoyed this thread.
One thing I think people sometimes don't think of in describing a variety is its ability to tolerate winter.
The average Joe or Josephine thinks of TB and such as being winter hardy, but many of them are just not suited for the northern climes of the US.
I'm Zone 4A and I can't tell you how many varieties are just not suited for growing here because they do not tolerate the winters. And if I were to read the descriptions of them, there would be no indication of which ones are, or are not, likely to be OK in this Zone. (Read that as many $$ down the drain for varieties that stood no chance at all)
(Yes, read that as an offer to winter test anyone's varieties)
If I were to hybridize - which is not likely given my limited space - that is a factor I would definately breed for.
