It is with great sadness that I hear this news. Mike was an inspiration to me when we first started work on the Iris Encyclopedia. At the very beginning he was putting up hundreds of pages and I called him personally to thank him. He told me that the work helped keep him from dwelling on the chemotherapy he was undergoing and it gave him a sense of still being productive. I was sad to hear at that time that he felt he had only a 50% chance of making it. I kept him in my prayers. I am sad that I did not get to know him better. He was giving back to the society up to the end.

As many of you are aware, one of our long time list members, Mike Greenfield,
has been battling cancer.
With great sadness, I am dropping this note to let everyone know that today at
1:00 pm, Mike passed away.
Mike approached irises as well as most other things in life with a great deal
of enthusiasm and wonder. Those
so inclined should step out to their garden, pause for a moment in
remembrance. He was a good friend and will
be missed.

I will post arrangements when they are available.
